More Than Survivors:
Conversations with
Multiple Personality Clients
(Paperback)
by James G. Friesen
A few months after Uncovering the Mystery
of MPD was released, I was asked to write a book about one
person who has overcome MPD, perhaps like some movies you may have
seen. My hesitation was that a story about any one person would
paint a picture with too few colors! I hoped to find a few of people
who are willing to tell their stories, in order to help people see
the broader picture. It is very clear that to read about one person
is very limited. This book is about eight people, their lives and
what God has done for them. They survived abuse, and developed MPD
as a last line of defense. My belief is that MPD is a sane response
to an insane world. These individuals will show you just what I
mean.
Did you ever wonder what it’s like to be a “fly
on the wall” during therapy? This is about as close as you will
get – actual conversations between a therapist and people who have
been through therapy, about their lives. Eight former clients are
interviewed, some from Jim’s work and some who received help from
other Christian therapists. More Than Survivors: Conversations
with Multiple Personality Clients (1992) provides insights
and hope, straight from the mouths of those who have benefitted
from treatment for Multiple Personality Disorder (MPD), now called
Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID). Open up this book and you
will find that these are truly splendid people.
“I just completed Jim Friesen’s More Than
Survivors. It is a masterpiece. Jim does an incredible job of empowering
and complementing each survivor’s sense of self and creative ability
to live beyond survival. He also magnifies our Creator and the power
of Christ, while maintaining the focus and purpose of the book with
appropriate interjections and clarifications.” -- a Survivor
